Natalie's First Cereal Experience

Last night we gave Natalie Rice Cereal for the first time. She seemed to like it. She actually opened her mouth for the spoon. It is always such a messy thing especially because it has to be so runny for the first feeding. We have video of it, but I don't know how to upload it correctly, sorry. I will play around with it.

Our Girly Tom Boy

On Wednesday night Taylor got her fingernails and toenails painted for the first time. Her Aunt SHerri did her toenails and I did her fingernails. She couldn't decide which color to use so we did her fingers and toes different colors. It was funny because as Sherri was painting her toenails she kept saying it tickled. I would venture to say she will not be someone that enjoys pedicures. They look really cute and really girly her up. Now if we can just get her to let us do her hair. Baby steps I guess.

Happy 1/2 Birthday Natalie

Today Natalie is 6 months old already and I can hardly believe it. I took her to the Doctor this morning for her well check up. She weighs only 12 lbs 14 oz and is now down to only 5% in weight instead of the 10% so now I have to bring her back for a weight check in one month. She is in the 50% for height at 26 inches long. She got 4 shots today so is not quite herself so this is the best I could get her to smile. She is now laughing at things it is so cute to hear and she is mastering the skill of rolling. She can maneuver her body to roll if she wants something on the floor. She is such a sweet baby and a pure delight to have around.

Scripture Reading

As a family we read scriptures in the morning. Nathan is now old enough that he actually reads verses by himself when it is his turn as opposed to repeating after us. So of course Taylor "reads" when it is her turn. I use the word read lightly. This is a picture of Taylor "reading". As you can see the scriptures are open but she is looking over at the ground not the scriptures. What is funny is that if you try to help her and have her repeat the verse after you she will say "I DON'T NEED HELP." She says very random things that are kind of a mix between a prayer and story telling. Then she will "read" something and then look up at Preston or I and say "Is that right?" Of course she always is. It is quite entertaining. Needless to say her turn is always at the end so we can end whenever we need to.

A few firsts

Today Nathan ran in his first official Running Club race. He did an awesome job. The race was 1 mile and he ran the WHOLE way. He was the 8th runner to cross the finish line and the 6th First Grader to finish. Unfortunately they only gave ribbons to the first 5 runners in each grade. We are so proud of him, he did a great job. He told me at the end that he couldn't feel his legs. That shows he really gave it his all. That is his first time running a whole mile without walking. WAY TO GO NATHAN.

Also on Saturday Nathan made his first basket during an actual Wham Basketball game. It was great. It was his 4th shot of the game and it finally went in. I was so happy I jumped off the bench and hollered. His smile was priceless when he saw the ball actually go through the hoop. He is becoming quite the little athlete.

"You Can't Do This"

Lately Taylor is really in to doing tricks. She puts her body in all kinds of different poses. I captured a couple of them on the camera, there have been some doozies. She is really trying to explore how her body can move. A typical day would be filled with conversations like this.

Taylor- "Watch Me Mom"

Me- "Wow good job Taylor, pretty tricky"

Taylor-"You can't do this"

Last night Taylor showed a trick to Preston and she said, "You can't do this it is really hard. But not for me, it is easy."

In a few weeks Taylor will start a toddler gymnastics class through the city and also a Princess dance class. Then she will really do tricks that I can't do. Like Cartwheels ;-) (my family knows all about my lack of cartwheel skills and are probably laughing hysterically right now)

Our Nathan

This is a picture of Nathan from last March at the Phoenix Zoo. I have realized that I don't have many pictures of Nathan on our blog. He is at school every day and the girls are home doing bloggy things so I post more about them. So this post is all about Nathan. He really is a great kid. He is trying to adjust to life right now. He is at the age where he still wants to be a little boy but is also trying to be all grown up. I really enjoy the times when I can just sit and talk with him. Yesterday we were driving in the car and both girls were asleep so Nathan and I just talked. He is very wise for his age and he made a few comments and I just looked back at him and said "Wow" of course he says "Wow What?" I said "I just can't believe how old you are getting. " He just kind of laughed. For Valentine's day Nathan's teacher asked us to write a Valentine to our child about their special gifts. It was neat to reflect on him. Some things I put were Nathan is a big helper around the house and I often take it for granted. Nathan also tries to be nice to everyone and it really bothers him when people are mean to him. He will say "Why do they say mean things to me, I don't say mean things to them?" He is very tender hearted but tries to be tough all at the same time. It is neat to see how much Nathan is progressing in school. 1st grade is so much different than Kindergarten and it makes me proud to see how much he is learning. This is Nathan after his Kindergarten graduation with his friend Joseph. In my unbiased opinion he really is a handsome little guy. :-)

Happy Birthday Big Brother

Today is my older brother David's birthday. (He is the one wearing the striped shirt. I have realized I don't have many pictures of my siblings) Anyhow back to my brother. David is 4 years older than me, I remember as a teenager I had a crush on some of his friends. He is a great guy and a very hard worker he is also VERY smart. Some fun memories I have of us as kids. When I was young I climbed the big tree in our backyard and got stuck on one of the high limbs. I could NOT get down and my hero big brother came and helped me down. When we were fairly old ( I was at least 10) we tried to make homemade fry bread. I don't know why but we thought we could make it with only flour and water, we just kept adding flour or water trying to get the right consistency. Needless to say we were only successful in making a HUGE mess, definitely not fry bread. My Mom was not happy to come home to such a mess. Another fun memory I have is on Sunday afternoons after church we would run and slide across the kitchen floor, David in his church socks and me in my tights. Those are just a few of my memories.
