Ribbon Run

On February 25th Nathan had a ribbon run race at his school. The kids compete by grade for running club. This race consists of 1.5 mile trail. This is some of the kids stretching and warming up before the race. Nathan is in the middle of the picture with a white shirt on and black shorts.

Nearing the finish line. Nathan is quite the little runner. I will admit it makes me tear up with pride when I see him participate in things like this.
Actually crossing the finish line.

Posing with his Best Friend Hayden. These two boys are pretty inseparable and have a lot of fun together. They are often mistaken for brothers. Nathan tells people that Hayden is his brother from another mother. :-)

Nathan was the 62nd boy to cross the finish line. He ended up getting 6th place for all the second grade boys. Unfortunately the coach only hands out ribbons to the first 5 from each grade. Nathan was pretty disappointed and shed a few tears when we were walking to the car . It was hard as his mom to watch him trying so hard to hold back the tears during the ribbon ceremony when he was pretty sure he was 5th place and then had to discover otherwise. He had to stop a few times to tie his shoe during the race but ran the rest of the time. I was so proud of him. Although he was disappointed in barely missing a ribbon he was proud of himself for beating some 6th grade boys even though they started well before the 2nd graders in the staggered race.

Even smiling after running 1.5 miles. He is #1 in our books. Way to go Nathan!!!!!!!
